2 Original 1950s Franciscan Starburst 8" Salad Dessert Plates EXC.. Atomic Retro (Lot #2)
Two original 1950's Franciscan Starburst salad dessert plates. Each measures approximately 8" in diameter. They are both in excellent condition with original glossy finish and bright colors (see photos). There are no chips, cracks, crazing, utensil marks or other signs of use or wear (see photos). The Plates have 1950's Franciscan "COLOR SEAL" marks (see photos).
Franciscan Ware introduced the Starburst pattern in 1954 and continued production until 1957. The futuristic, Atomic starry design fit in well with the new chrome kitchens and appliances that were popular at the time.
The Starburst Line featured a material developed by Gladding McBean & Co. (later Franciscan) called "Malinite". It was a new material that produced dishes that were very durable, would not craze and resisted cracking.
