Video shows lightning strikes Makkah's clock tower, generating breathtaking scenes in sky

(Web Desk) - A spectacular scene was created when the famous clock tower of Makkah was struck by a large lightning bolt that lighted up the night sky with a mesmerising show of sparks of electricity forking skywards as storms continued to batter the holy city of Makkah with strong winds and heavy rain.

The renowned clock tower in Makkah, which looks out over the Kaaba, was struck by a massive lightning strike in the video. The lightning then quickly stretched across the sky like a mesh.

Mohamed al-Hudhali, a photographer, photographed the moment a giant bolt of lightning struck the biggest clock tower on earth.

Makkah experienced considerable rainfall on Wednesday, which prompted the National Centre of Meteorology to upgrade the alert level to "Red Alert" - the highest possible.

However, the centre dropped the notice to "Yellow Alert" on Thursday, according to Al-Arabiya.

In other videos that were uploaded online, Umrah pilgrims were shown walking around the Kaaba's grounds while getting wet.

When lightning struck the Makkah clock tower in August and lighted up the entire city, a Saudi photographer was able to capture a similar moment on film, and it also went viral.
