Outhouse Seat Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about free outhouse seat plans. This is PART 3 of the project, where I show you how to build the roof and the door for the outhouse. Make sure you check out the rest of the outhouse project as well, to learn how to build it from zero to roof. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

How to build an outhouse seat

Building an outhouse

Materials

• M – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 48″ long CLEATS
• N – 12 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 16 1/2″ long SLATS
• O – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 23 3/4″ long SUPPORTS
• P – 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 29 1/2″x48″ long TOP

• 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 6′
• 3  pieces of 1×4 lumber – 8′
• 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 4’x4′
• 3 1/2″ screws, 1 1/4″ screws, 2 1/2″ screws
• wood glue, stain/paint, wood filler

Tools

• Safety gloves, glasses
• Miter saw, jigsaw
• Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
• Drill machinery and drill bits

Time

• One Day

Outhouse seat plans

Front base supports

The first step is to set the 2×4 supports for the front of the seat frame. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

Building the base

Attach the 1×4 slats to create the front of the seat base. Use 1 5/8″ screws to lock the slats into place tightly.

Top supports

Fit the 2×4 supports for the seat top. Drill pocket holes at both ends and lock them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.

Building the top plywood

Mark the cut lines on the seat top and get the job done with a jigsaw. Drill a starting hole and get the job done with a jigsaw. Next, use a circular saw to cut the top into three parts, so you can fit them easier into place.

Fitting the top plywood

Fit the seat top to the frame. Align the edges with attention and secure it into place with 1 5/8″ screws. Leave no gaps between the components and lock them into place tightly.

Free Outhouse Plans – Back View

Take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to protect the components from decay and to enhance the look of the project.
