The Avenal Police Department says it received multiple reports from residents of a balloon spotted flying over houses in Avenal Tuesday morning.

According to police, the balloon is registered with a 53,000 ft. flight.

The flight path from Flight Radar shows the object almost circling Coalinga.

Flight radar also shows 4 other balloons flying between CA and NV:

  • HBAL655 is over Coalinga area today. Flying at 52,400 ft, N875TH
  • HBAL657 Is around Lone Pine, CA. Flying at 57,300 ft, N877TH
  • HBAL656 Is near Columbus NV. fLYING AT 63,600 FT, N876TH
  • HBAL654 is near Warm Springs NV. Flying at 63,100 ft, N874TH

FOX26 reported on other weather balloons spotted Monday over Sequoia National Forest and Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park.

Authorities have not yet said what the balloons are being used for, but some of the balloons seem to have launched from Inyo-Kern Airport.
