U2 360 Miami 6.29.11

The U2 360 show in Miami was great! It was the same set list as East Lansing except U2 played North Star for the first time in the US. I had a great Larry moment during I’ll Go Crazy. It was hot in Miami, but not as hot as it was in Baltimore.

I stayed on Edge’s side of the inner circle so I could watch U2 enter under the stage. While waiting, I hung out with Rick, as I do most shows, and Dave and his son Joshua (yes named after The Joshua Tree). The inner circle was pretty full by 7pm. Florence and the Machine didn’t start until 7:45 and U2 didn’t come on until 9:15. Bono again shouted ‘Achtung Y’all!’ during The Fly. U2 debuted North Star in the US, in the place where Stay or Stuck in a Moment is usually played. During I’ll Go Crazy Larry looked at me, smiled and mouthed something to me. I’m not sure what it was, maybe ‘Hi’ or ‘Thanks’, but we locked eyes for a few moments. U2 exited on Adam’s side, even though they had entered on Edge’s side, but Larry did look in my direction as he came down the stairs from the stage. The Miami audience as a whole was enthusiastic and loud, but the folks around me in the inner circle didn’t seem too excited. It took me over 2 hours to get out of the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium, so I didn’t get back to the hotel until almost 2am.

I’m spending today relaxing in my fabulous suite at the fantastic Epic hotel in Miami resting up for my long drive to Nashville tomorrow for the U2 360 show on Saturday.

  1. Dear Memphis,

We must meet! I have just recently discovered your blog & read all about your journey. We have a lot in common!!! Although my touring history is mainly w/Tori Amos (80+ shows to date), I consider myself a fairly professional music fan. I will be in Nashville, & am a little ashamed to admit this is my very 1st U2 show ever. I have waited 30 years for this day!!! I see that you are a dog lover & I have 2 dog-children myself. I also think it quite interesting that Lana Turner is your favorite actress (I’m named after her). Anyway, I would really love to meet you this Saturday. I will be wearing a red & white striped fedora w/a U2 button on the side & my DESI(RED) shirt. I’m hoping w/all my might that Bono will be able to stop by & talk to fans before the show. I have no idea what I would say to him but I know it would be a defining moment in my life just to see him. I have seats in the stands but am curious as to how the inner circle works especially if it is not totally full. I will look for you & think what you’re doing is awesome! You can check out some of my tour history on my blog if you’re interested. – Lana

    • THanks Lana! Yes we have a lot in common. I would love to talk with you. I’ll be at Vanderbilt stadium around 3 on Saturday waiting for the band to arrive. I’ll be in my concert uniform black Larry Mullen Band tee and straw cowboy hat.

  2. Question: you mentioned a “Happy birthday” stamp this time round. Is it always like that in the inner circle or was it actually someone’s birthday on that occasion? I’m not good with dates in general, so maybe it was a band member?

Please share your thoughts about this post. Thanks for reading!
