The overseer reported as under : Contracts : The works in hand during the past month have with one exception made good progress. The following have been completed since last board meeting I, new side rails, tarring and painting traffic bridge, on Bae’s road, Raukapuka Flat; 11., shingling Payne’s road, reserve 389, Orari; 111, shingling Bae’a road, reserve 349, Cooper’s Flat and Rangitata road ; IV., shingling Markham’s road, reserve 319, Orari Flat and Belfield road; Y, shingling McKenzie’s road, Geraldine Flat.—Works applied for : As instructed 1 have examined the riverbed at Peckham’s 0 ossiug, and find it would require five o tains in length of a bridge from the south t jrrace to the end of the old footbridge; this on the suspension system would cost £ —. The old bridge covers a distance of 310 feet of shingle bed. There is also a gap of 168 feet at the north side; should the river change its course this would cost on the above principle £—• The total distance across the shingle bed is a little over 12 chains.—Blackler’s Road, Waitohi Hills; As d'”ected 1 htve inspected this ? : ue of road, wh’ch is about 110 chains in length, from the flat below to Blackler’s woolshed. The road runs up a steep h ’l, and rises about 1500 feet in the distance given above; the grades in pices are too steep for dray traffic. To make a passable track for wheel traffic, say 10 feet wide, • would cost about £—. A portion of this road would be also used by Mr .Jessep as a back entrance to his iau.—Drain near Batty’s, Orari; I have inspected the work done by Mr Batty in deepening the drain adjoining his section, and value the work done at 12s.—-Daymen : Two of the men have bepn engaged in spreading shingle yu f;ontracts, The others have been over-

I hauling, repairing, tarring, and painting I the traffic and foot bridges in various p'irts of the district.—Small Birds : Since my former report a very large number of eggs have been brought in for sale. I have purchased to date 4,587, at a cost of £3B 4s 6d.—l have etc., Wm. Shiers, Overseer. The report was read, and it was resolved that Lynn’s road be done by next board day. The board considered a bridge at Peckham’s crossing too expensive to entertain. Work at Blackler’s road to be done if settlers are willing. Mr Batty to receive 6s for work done. The rest of the report was considered satisfactory. INTERVIEW. Mr Studholme waited on the board with respect to the diversion of a road as asked for by Mr Jones, and requesting permission to put a gate on adjoining his property.
