The 1st time I used Mucinex,I used the 1200mg pack, it kept me up for 36hr straight but it did loosen the congestion so that I could COUGH IT OUT (that is its purpose. not a cough supressant as others have written) This time I bought the 600mg and had no trouble sleeping. I've dealt with brochitis most of my life and if you have chest congestion, this is the best OTC drug you can get. You do ha...

The print on the carton of this Mucinex is SO SMALL, especially if you sick. Found myself approximating dosage...don't ever do that.

I am on my second pill and it has loosened a tight chest. This is a timed release pill so it should not be cut in half.

After taking Mucinex, I experienced severe headaches, frequent urination, and several sleepless nights. I have been taking this medicine for three days, but I am not taking anymore.

Helped some with cough and congestion, but it produced hives as well - even a day after stopping its use, hives were still popping up.

I have used this product for the past two nights for severe congestions and coughing. Although I did not have any trouble sleeping, I did however have trouble with coughing up a "froth" and having to throw up. I still coughed all night but I did at least sleep some... It definitely gives you that light headed feeling as well. I was having trouble focusing and driving.

Have had a bad cough for 7 days, was unable to bring anything up. This was recommended, thought it was working well, but then the headakes, the tight breathing, and being so dizzy I could not go to work. AFter reading this, I see this is all probably because of the M. NO more for me, back to Advil cold and sinus.

A friend recommended Mucinex DM for cold and cough that persisted for two weeks. It worked great to help the cold/cough and wouldn't mind taking it again, EXCEPT.... I took it before I went to bed and slept only a few hours. In a.m. I was so dizzy I felt the floor was going out from underneath me, had cloudy vision, couldn't make a decision, and was scared to drive but did. I know my high school students thought I was high....very embarassing and scary.

I took this the first time and got stomach cramps, severe stomach cramps and felt the urge to go to the bathroom. I thought it was just coincidence. Several months later, I took it again (tonight) .. had the same problems .. the horrible stomach cramping, the heart palpatations ... dizzyness. I will NOT take this again.

Mucinex definitely cleared my congestion so that I was able to rest this afternoon. However, as someone who is sensitive to many medications, it did make me feel a little "off." This is not a product I would be able to use if I were at work as I basically needed to sleep it off.

in response to dianne, pisca...i have had fibro for 24+years. the pharmacist recommended this to me when i had uri several months ago..yes, it keeps me coughing with a productive cough..i take one morning and evening. i take the 1200 mg/#28, get them at target for $21. due to $$, sometimes i take 1/2 am and pm..but not when i start congesting. from what i've read about guifenesin, it has a mild muscle relaxing effect. hope this helps..barb

When you take this medicine, be prepared to lie down or sit down. EXTREME dizziness. It is helping me, tho, I DO feel better, but the dizziness is a frightening side effect that isn't listed on the bottle. It has helped me. My headache is almost gone, and I can breathe much better, after just one pill of the "regular" Mucinex. I will continue this med, but will take it when I go to bed. Now, I'm going to go lay down...:)

This drug caused my throat to close up during coughing spasms or out of the blue during sleep.I would feel like I was choking and couldn't breath. It was terrible. As soon as I quit taking the drug I quit having those symptoms.

Almost killed my siser-in-law when used with psudaphed. The drug interaction was almost fatal. She ended up on a respirator in an Arizona hospital in ICU. She will be in the hospital for at least a weak. BE AWARE!

Mucinex Allergic Reaction October 28, 2008! After using Mucinex for the past few years with great results, I was shocked to have just experienced a semi-severe allergic reaction to the product. I am a 46 year old female with symptoms of a "common cold". During the duration of the Autumn "Cold", I have only taken Advil at bedtime and slept under a Vick's Vaporizer for two nights. Today, the symptoms are "breaking up" and I feel much better, but just need to "thin the mucus" to clear my sinuses and make coughs more productive. I took two Mucinex tablets at 10:30 AM. Symptoms began at 11:30 AM. First, my throat was having a "strange tightening sensation" and I was trembling. At that time, it did not occur to me that I could be having a "reaction" to the Mucinex. By 12:30, my heart was racing, the trembling was worse, throat closing sensation was stronger, and chest was feeling tight to the point that I felt like I was "out of breath". Extreme sleepiness came over me. (My thinking was so "foggy" that I could not reason that I might be in danger!) I lay across my bed and fell fast asleep. I woke up only one hour later coughing on drainage. As I tried to walk to the bathroom, I then knew that something is very wrong! My heart is pounding, throat and chest are still "tight", and the trembling is still severe! Staggering from extreme dizziness, I rush to my Wrist-Style Blood Pressure Machine and sit at my desk to wait for the BP results which are 144/83, 97bpm! It is now 3:00 PM. My BP is now 127/95, 86bpm. I won't go to a doctor because I don't think I'll die from this. It's a 12-Hour Extended Release Tablet, so it won't wear off until later tonight! I am too dizzy and trembling to risk driving. What a "SCARE"! Read More Read Less

I was out of Robitussin and too lazy/ill to venture out into the cold weather for more. I found a box of Mucinex DM in the cabinet and gave it a go. I found it very effective to help loosen/lessen my cough and experienced NO negative side effects; in fact, I took another pill this morning before I left for work. After reading so many bad reviews from other users, I wonder if perhaps a combination of things occured to make them unhappy: Are they actually using the corect product for their symptoms? Are they taking other cold medications or presccpiptions that would cause adverse side-effects? An anitbiotic would probably be the root cause of intestinal malaise especially if they are not kept hydrated. Neither of the active ingrediants are indicated as pre-cursors to hypertension, irritability or gastro-intestional problems. When you are sick and self-medicating, it is important to scrutinize all aspects from head to toe and inside-out. However, having said all that, now that I'm up and about, I will head to the store and purchase plain old Guiafenisen whish is much less expensive and offers more flexible dosing (especially when used PRN). One last comment about a pleasant and unexpected side effect; I have suffered with Fibromyalgia for over 15 years and taken multitudes of medications. There must be something in the Mucinex or components that has a favorable effect on my achey body. WOW am I pleased and looking forward to what the outcome is 2 weeks from now. What I don't know is if this can be taken long-term for Fibromyalgia, once my cough has subsided. Anyone out there with first-hand knowledge of this? Thanks! Dianne Read More Read Less
