BISHOP BRIAN TAMAKI TO VISIT THE PILBARA by ngaardamedia published on 2018-10-22T08:07:59Z BISHOP BRIAN TAMAKI TO VISIT THE PILBARA FROM NZ Paul TahiTahi from the Saints CMC Pilbara WA is passionate about helping men to be better fathers and leaders in their communities and he's doing it through a powerful program called Man Up New Zealand. Man Up was established by Bishop Brian Tamaki from Destiny Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and he will be speaking in Roebourne this weekend. The MAN UP program, that encourages men to open up about their struggles and strengthens them to be leaders started in Roebourne last year and is now operating in Karratha and Port Hedland. It will be launched in Tom Price tonight. Mr Tahitahi has battled his own demons and says Man Up has given him the tools to be a better father and husband. He spoke with Ngaarda Media about feeling rejected when he was young which lead to dysfunctions in his married life. "When I was born I was given away, I didn’t know that. When I turned 12 my mother passed away, so when I was 15 I found out that I was given away .. so I had two ladies that left me when I was young, my mother that I loved and my birth mother," he said. "I was abandoned, I was angry and I got jealous of my three siblings (to his adopted mother) and we would fight and argue." Mr Tahitahi also spoke about his wife's 'Once Were Warriors' upbringing and how they would clash because of attitudes that were developed from their past. "Her father was the president of the Mongrel Mob ... in that lifestyle, she faced domestic violence, her mum would take her and her brother and run, so she was brought up like that." "We get together and we marry, it was really beautiful, but later on we would have arguments, I would raise my voice and she would automatically think, oh my god he is going to hit me, so she grabs our kids and runs, and I start thinking automatically oh here we go, here is another lady she’s going to abandon me, so these two dysfunctions were in our lives and out of that comes domestic violence." Paul Tahitahi started the Man Up program as a facilitator to help others but soon found the course material challenging him. "When we started the Man Up program and I started to facilitate it I thought oh great I am going to help our brothers out, but what happened it turned around and pointed the finger at me, and I realised hey you have to deal with this." "So now when my wife and I have an argument I have these tools. I know not to raise my voice, and now Kim is doing LEGACY with the ladies, she knows not to just grab the kids and run because now we both know and understand our dysfunctions." "That is Man Up and Legacy, understanding our dysfunctions as a married couple .. now we can work together." The MAN UP program launches tonight in Tom Price at the Baptist Church. Bishop Brian Tamaki will be meeting with locals in Port Hedland at the DOME from 7 am to 9 am on Saturday the 27th of October. The Tour of Duty Downunder motorcycle run from Port Hedland to Roebourne will kick off from the Caltex in South Hedland at 9:30 am. Mr Tamaki will be speaking with his family at the 50 Cent Hall in Roebourne at 12 pm on Saturday the 27th, October.
