The next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is just around the corner to luxuriate in your driveway, but if you're thinking about replacing your aging S-Class with the latest iteration it's not going to be cheap (not that you'd expect it to be). The bare-bones 2021 Mercedes-Benz S500 sedan will set you back $110,850.
For those wanting a little more, the S580 swaps the standard 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder with the beloved 4.0-liter turbocharged V8. That upcharge will set you back another $6,500 and brings the starting price up to $117,350: not too shabby. For an extra $4,300 you can add some optional AMG goodies and bring it up to the AMG Line trim level, netting you a set of wheels, some floor mats and different styling. The Executive Line tops, only available on the S580, tops the range. This loaded ’Benz starts at $132,500 and still has room to grow with some high-tech options like a Burmester High-End 4D surround sound system or optional wheels.
Looking at the competition, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class does start at a higher price than BMW’s 7-Series. The large BMW starts at a more affordable $87,795. That said, today’s 7-Series is not getting any younger, making it hard to compare directly with the latest generation Mercedes. However, looking at the base 2020 Mercedes-Benz S450, the next-gen S500 will set you back around $15,550 more.
If you’re champing at the bit to get your new S-Class, Mercedes says you should expect to see them start rolling into dealerships in the first half of 2021. If the pedestrian S-Class isn’t opulent enough for your jet-setting needs, don’t forget you’ll also be able to snag a 2021 Mercedes-Maybach.
