I always had this though in my head back when I was using Vista, but today I had to install it in a VM and remembered it again. The boot screen of Windows Vista seems to be missing something, perhaps a logo of some sort. Anyone else has had this thought?

It always has struck me as a little odd. Kind of an odd design choice IMO.

ye they screwed it up totally with vista
blank screen with marquee
then 3 second vista orb splash
then welcome screen
would be much nicer if they used Setup animated screen with aurora and that traveling spark
instead this black screen

Re: Windows Vista loading screen seems to be missing something
I had checked Vista's ntoskrnl.exe with Resource Hacker, and the screen actually seems to be the same as that of Windows XP's, only the Windows logo and the copyright labels are replaced by plain black graphics (yet they technically still render).
The same screen is also used in Windows 7, there used always in Recovery, and in normal sessions if the monitor's native resolution is lower than 1024x768 (i.e. netbooks of that era which mostly had 1024x600)
Its resources exists in Windows 8 onwards' ntoskrnl.exe too, but this screen is never used there, rendering the resources unused. They're the same as Vista onwards'

WindowsXLive did so in Vista Transformation Pack 8.0.1 (for XP), but not in 9.0.1
