Michael C. Hall returns, with an accent

Amanda Abbington and Michael C. Hall in the Netflix series “Safe.”Ben Blackall/Netflix

I’m so glad Michael C. Hall has another show coming. He was good on “Six Feet Under,” and he was fantastic on “Dexter,” despite the way the writers let him down in the last three seasons. (The less said about his appearance as JFK on “The Crown,” the better.)

The new one is called “Safe,” and the first season will be available on Netflix on May 10. Here’s the strange thing: The show is set in England, and Hall adopts an English accent. Holy “Masterpiece”!

Check out the just-released trailer online. He’s all “what what” and “blimey” and “bloke.” OK, he doesn’t really use those words, but he’s definitely doing British.

It will be interesting to hear whether the British critics think he passes. I know how intolerant I am when I see a movie or TV show featuring bad Boston accents, which is often.

On the eight-episode thriller, created by crime author Harlan Cohen, Hall plays a pediatric surgeon widower raising two teenage daughters in a gated community. When his oldest daughter goes missing, his search for her reveals all kinds of unpleasant surprises.

The show costars Amanda Abbington from “Mr. Selfridge” and “Sherlock” and Marc Warren from “Hustle” and “The Good Wife.”
