Dexter star Michael C. Hall reveals he's not 'all the way heterosexual' as he discusses his 'fluid' sexuality
Dexter star Michael C. Hall revealed in a new interview that he does identify as a heterosexual, but he's not, 'all the way heterosexual.'
'I think there’s a spectrum. I am on it. I’m heterosexual. But if there was a percentage, I would say I was not all the way heterosexual,' Hall, 47, said in a new interview with The Daily Beast.
The actor added that playing the emcee in Sam Mendes' 1999 Broadway revival of Cabaret, required him to, 'fling a bunch of doors open,' adding he has, 'always leaned into any fluidity in terms of my sexuality.'

Hall has been married to his third wife Morgan McGregor since February 2016, after marriages to his Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter from 2008 to 2011 and Amy Spanger from 2002 to 2006.
When asked if he's actually had an intimate relationship with another man, Hall said he hasn't, but he has had a, 'craving for an emotional intimacy with a man.'
'I had an appetite to have emotional connections with men beyond beer, sports, and fist pumping that were considered "gay,"' Hall added.

The actor added that he thinks maybe these feelings are due to an, 'absent father,' since his father passed away from cancer when he was 11.
'I don’t mean to suggest that an emotional relationship between a father and son is any way homoerotic,' Hall clarified.
'I mean an emotional intimacy or connection that at least in the milieu I grew up in was considered fey.'

When asked if he has ever been attracted to another man, Hall said, 'No, I mean, I was attracted to John Cameron Mitchell when I saw Hedwig. But no, as a rule I am heterosexual.'
After playing the emcee in Cabaret, Hall would end up playing one of the most iconic gay TV characters of all time, David Fisher on Six Feet Under.
'That was something I was aware of when David Fisher was happening,' the actor said. 'For me, I was playing this aspirationally iconic gay role as a straight man.'
