Brooke Ligertwood is the global and regional leader of Hillsong Worship and a Grammy award-winning songwriter, producer, and worship leader. Brooke has been a member of Hillsong Church since 2004, representing the church through innovation and song while also maintaining a successful mainstream career under her maiden name for 15 years (Brooke Fraser).

She fervently believes that for a Christian, all of life is ministry. She and her husband Scott (also a songwriter) live in Orange County with their two young daughters and are members of Hillsong California.

Brooke is obsessed with the marriage of theology and art, and as a result has written adored congregational anthems such as ‘What a Beautiful Name,’ ‘King of Kings,’ ‘Hosanna,’ and ‘Man of Sorrows,’ as well as devotional favorites such as ‘Awake My Soul,’ ‘New Wine,’ and ‘None But Jesus.’

1.Brooke’s childhood and family background as she grew up

Fraser is the first born of three children born to retired All Black Rugby squad Bernie Fraser and his wife Lynda in Lautoka, Fiji. Her father has Fijian, Portuguese, and Scottish ancestors.

Matthew, who resides in Wellington, and Shea, who lives in Dunedin, are her two brothers. Fraser was brought up in Lower Hutt’s Naenae, where he attended Dyer Street School, Naenae Intermediate School, and Naenae College.

Fraser studied piano from the age of seven to seventeen. She began writing songs at the age of twelve and taught herself to play the acoustic guitar at the age of fifteen.

2.Before blowing up in the music industry, Brooke was an editor

She started writing for Soul Purpose magazine at the age of fifteen and was promoted to editor in 2002. She quit her job as an editor soon after her arrival in Auckland in late 2002 to explore her music career.

Fraser agreed to a multi-album contract deal with Sony Music in 2002, at the age of 18, after an intense contract dispute among record labels.

Brooke Fraser, very famous for her chart-topping 2010 hit “Something in the Water,” turned her clever music genre into huge business success during the early 2000s, becoming one of the best-selling New Zealand singer/songwriters in history with her 2003 debut LP, What to Do with Daylight.

She released three more widely praised hit songs under her maiden name (Albertine, Flags, and Brutal Romantic) prior to actually releasing 2022’s live worship album Seven as Brooke Ligertwood.

Ligertwood is a member of the Australian Christian pop band Hillsong Worship, and she was the songwriter and lead singer for the group’s Grammy-winning single “What a Beautiful Name” in 2017.

4.Her talent in music has made multiple of her albums go platinum

Flags, her third studio album, was released in 2010 and has been her most impactful album to date. Brutal Romantic, her most latest album, was released in November 2014 by Vagrant Records. She is one of the best-selling and most widely known New Zealand recording artists of all time, with 15x platinum albums to her credit.

She received the award for her song “What A Beautiful Name,” which she composed for Hillsong Church. Since 2008, she has performed with her husband as part of the church’s Los Angeles fundamental team leader as Brooke Ligertwood.

In New Zealand, Fraser is renowned for her hits ‘Something In The Water’ and ‘Deciphering Me.’ Fraser received her first Grammy Award.

On YouTube, ‘What A Beautiful Name’ has received 112 million views. The song triumphed over songs by Casting Crowns, Natalie Grant, and Mercy Me.

6.Her life away from music and her personal life with her family

Fraser relocated to Sydney in 2004 following the success of her debut album. She married Scott Ligertwood in Sydney on March 17, 2008, and changed her name to Brooke Ligertwood. “Brooke Fraser” has been her stage name throughout her career. Fraser officially confirmed her pregnancy with their first child in March 2015. Dylan Wilde Ligertwood, a daughter, was born on September 18, 2015. She has a second daughter, known as Rooney Ives Ligertwood who was born on 10 July 2017, making it two children.

7.Brooke’s music was translated to more than 15 different languages across the globe

Liggetwood is at the executive chairman of the modern worship music movement, having spent two decades as a Christian recording artist, ultimately resulting in her role as worldwide leader of Hillsong Church. Her songs have been streamed over 1.5 billion times worldwide and interpreted into over 15 languages.

Ligertwood has shaped the sound of Christian music through his huge international trademark; songs like “Beautiful Name,” “Hosanna,” and “King of Kings” have become stable exaltations of church communities all over the globe.

8.Fraser had a huge success even after she changed her name

She reunited with Hillsong Worship for the 2016 live album Let There Be Light, which included the Grammy Award-winning song “What a Beautiful Name.” Brooke Fraser released two compilation albums, A-Sides and B-Sides, in 2016 and 2018, accordingly, and in 2022 she released Seven, her first music collection using her married name, Brooke Ligertwood.

9.Brooke has used her platform to invest in charity work projects to help people

Fraser has had a long and successful career, and she has always used her role to showcase numerous worthwhile causes and nonprofit initiatives, raising significant amounts of money for them in the process. In late 2010, while on tour in the United States boosting her third album Flags, Fraser ran a birthday campaign in collaboration with charity: water, asking her fans to donate $27 in honor of her 27th birthday.

The goal was to raise $50,000 to fund the construction of clean water wells in Ethiopia. Fraser’s birthday campaign raised over $54,000, joining the likes of Justin Bieber, Will Smith, and Adam Lambert. She has promised to keep working with charity: water on upcoming work.

Fraser has been an Artist Associate with World Vision since 2001. She has traveled to Cambodia and Tanzania with World Vision, the Philippines with Opportunity International, and Rwanda individually in June 2005, June 2006 as part of the charity event “Hope Rwanda,” and May 2007 when she recorded the music video for the song “Albertine” from her second studio album of the same name.

She also sponsors eleven children through World Vision and gives children ways to contribute to World Vision’s work, such as fundraising T-shirts and more.

She was one of several New Zealand performers who collaborated with popular New Zealand comedy band Flight of the Conchords on their 2012 New Zealand Red Nose Day charity song “Feel Inside (and things of that nature).”

10.She is among the 13 woman in the world with a unique guitar
