The Bay of Islands Walking Weekend 2023
The Bay of Islands Walking Weekend. 12, 13, 14, 15 October 2023
The Bay of Islands Walking Weekend has a huge variety of walks. We walk many of the islands and remote spots on the peninsula that are hard to access as individuals – the walking weekend makes it cost effective and hassle free. The walks are spectacular with breath taking scenery, amazing flora and fauna, but also very rich in history and culture, you are walking in footsteps of some of the first explorers to arrive in New Zealand.
There is something for everyone – an overnight stay out at iconic Cape Brett, kayaking and walking, cycling and walking. If you are doing a walk on one of the islands, travelling the short trip on a launch or on the Barefoot Adventures Catamaran is a wonderful scenic adventure in itself! Many walks incorporate great food and we have three vineyard walks, and a walk to the award winning PhatHouse Brewery. You can walk from 2km to 21km. We are lucky enough to be able to guide you over some magnificent walks on private land – only open to the Walking Weekend.
The event is in its 10th year so expect a few birthday cakes on some of the walks. We have many return walkers – year after year – this speaks volumes about the weekend.
Our guides are all passionate and knowledgeable about the Bay of Islands area and bring something special to the walking experience. Each walk has no more than 20 people. Our HQ is the Russell Bowling Club where people can meet, chat about their day and have something to eat and drink.
Russell is a fantastic base for the weekend with lots of great restaurants, places to stay and for the non-walkers out there We are very excited about this weekend and the great walking experiences there are here in the Bay of Islands. Time to get your walking boots out of the cupboard and join us in the Bay of Islands.
