Not far from the city of Sheffield is a stunning beauty spot named Dovedale. Located in Derbyshire, it is a very popular spot that allows people to walk down the beautiful River Dove.
Dovedale is a limestone valley in the Peak District National Park. It is one of the most visited natural sites in Britain. The area is covered with steep crags that tower above the river as it passes through the dale.
The site is easily accessible, but has some steeper parts. It's a short distance away from the main valley and nearby dales of Hall Dale and Milldale. It was first popularised in the 18th century when from 1899 to the 1960s a railway line ran from Ashbourne to Buxton to a station at Thorpe Cloud.

The area is beloved for its stunning rock formations, created by erosion over thousands of years. The exposed stone has formed structures such as Ilam rock, which sits 25 metres above the ground watching over the river.
If you're really into your exploration, the caves at Dovedale are a great way of going off the beaten track. There are lots of little caves throughout the park but the best known is Reynard's Cave and the caverns at Dove Holes.
Dovedale is perfect for a stroll or exploration and over the years it has inspired a great many artworks and novels. Most famously, Dovedale appears in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and has featured in films such as Robin Hood, Jane Eyre and The Other Boleyn Girl.
