Saputo has officially launched Cheer cheese. The range is the official rebrand of Coon cheese, due to discriminatory connotations of the name.

At the time, Saputo Inc CEO Lino A. Saputo said: “Treating people with respect and without discrimination is one of our basic principles and it is imperative that we continue to uphold this in everything we do.”

“Our decision to change the name of Australia’s much-loved cheese reinforces this commitment to build a culture of acceptance, inclusion and respect where everyone feels a sense of belonging.”

Saputo Dairy Australia commercial director Cam Bruce said the product roll out has begun with more products appearing on shelves nationally over the coming weeks.

“CHEER is the same great cheese that millions of Australians have grown up with and enjoyed for generations,” Bruce said.

Nestlé also changed brand names for popular lollies in November 2020, with Red Skins and Chicos rebranded as Red Ripper and Cheekies
