Is there anything better than keeping a family heirloom — like this restored 1964 Ford F100 — on the road? Welcome to the Ford family.

For this week’s Ride of the Week, we have this lovely, and freshly restored, 1964 Ford F100 owned by Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum member Weste. This particular truck was purchased new in 1964 from Walton Motor Company in Cheyenne, WY by Weste’s father-in-law and has remained in the family ever since.

After being married to his daughter for 43 years he gave me the truck. Now eight years later I am retired and have started the rebuild. While I have some mechanical ability, sheet metal work is not one of my skills. About the only skill I have supplied so far is writing checks to my shop. […] This is what it looked like in my driveway when I got it home.

And here’s another photo of Weste’s father-in-law from back in the day…

The Restoration

Being mechanically inclined, Weste started with the brakes and clutch. His initial project goal was to keep the truck as a survivor, but the floor pans were shot and he needed to bring in some pros who knew how to handle sheet metal and welding along with paint and bodywork. And once the truck was apart, more cancer revealed itself and Weste commissioned a full restoration. New floor pan. Front cab supports. Gas tank mounts. Cab Corners. It was an expensive and time-consuming process.

Fortunately, Weste was able to work with a shop that took weekly payments, which he used as an opportunity to visit his father-in-law’s truck and see weekly progress reports in person.

I go to the shop every Tuesday to pay for the previous week’s work and check their progress. Last week they were working on reassembling the the cab and finalizing the bed paint. The painter was touching up the FORD on the tailgate by hand. We went with a body colored bed liner for the cab and bed floor. You have to look closely to tell it is bed liner.

I think the results speak for themselves. Don’t you?
