CATHEDRAL COVE

CATHEDRAL COVE

Accessible only on foot or by boat, famous Catedral Cove is one of the "must visit" sites on the Coromandel Peninsula.
The track begins at the northern end of Hahei. You can visit Cathedral Cove anytime.

Due to increased traffic in Hahei village over summer, the Cathedral Cove Lookout car park (start of the track) is closed from 1st October to 30th April. Free parking is available at the entrance to Hahei Village, on your right hand side. From the village entrance car park, either walk via Hahei Beach or Hahei Village Town Centre, or use the Park and Ride shuttle bus to the top Cathedral Cove lookout (although you will miss Hahei Beach and the beautiful cliff walk). The Cathedral Cove Walk from the carpark at the Hahei Village Entry Carpark on the outskirts of Hahei beach is approximately a 1.15 hrs walk.  From the top lookout it is a 10 minute walk to Gemstone Bay Snorkel Trail, 20 min to Stingray Bay and approximately 45 mins one way to The Cove.

Cathedral Cove is closed due a landslip and the ongoing risk of rockfall and erosion. It is not safe for visitors. Do not use the track down to the beach, or use a vessel to land on the beach. Ngāti Hei has placed a rāhui over Cathedral Cove and ask the public to not visit the site. For more information please refer to the DOC website: click here
