The cliffs were formed from layers of silt and gravel that were deposited by glaciers about 4 million years ago. These layers were compressed, then raised by geological activity. Later erosion formed the tips.
The cliffs are on private land, so NZD 5 per car is requested at the gate.August 9, 2020
