Russell Wilson will establish his future with the Broncos over the next three weeks

The Denver Broncos are on the mend and so is Russell Wilson. How he plays over the next 3 games will have a big impact on his future with the team.

The Denver Broncos have made it exciting at the end of the season in Broncos Country for the first time in years. Sean Payton has proven that he’s still got the goods as a head coach. But the question at some point will turn to whether or not Russell Wilson has proven he is who Payton wants to keep working with.

Let me start by saying that the hot takes about Wilson likely being let go this offseason is absolute nonsense.

Could the Broncos do it? Yes.

But let’s take a moment and talk about the implications. That’s ~$50 million in dead money which would represent 20% of the Broncos cap. That’s a pretty tough spill to swallow and doesn’t make a ton of sense.

But if Wilson for some reason were to bomb out in the last 3 games (newsflash: he won’t), it would make the discussion interesting. I think for sure a disappointing end to his season would lead to a next season where there would be a lot of new expectations on Wilson from Payton and a ton of pressure.

Wilson is a top 10 QB by rating in the NFL. He’s led 4 comebacks this season. He has 24 TDs on the season against 8 interceptions.

Given the price and the performance making a change at QB in 2024 sounds absolutely asinine.

But in 2025? That’s a horse of a different color...
