South Dunedin Voice 2012

24 Oct 2013

So many people were enthusiastic about the inaugural South Dunedin street festival, it's hoped it will become an annual event.

The Otago Community Trust provided some financial support to South Dunedin Voice for a street festival that celebrated South Dunedin, got people talking and working together, and strengthened networks. Community organisations joined forces with South Dunedin businesses in November 2012 to come up with stalls, entertainment, exhibitions and activities on King Edward Street – everything from performances from the Pacific Island church choir, to school rock bands and a lion dance from the Chinese community, to an art exhibition from Otago Polytechnic students and family fun activities. Nick Orbell, one of the organisers, said a lot of good things happened on a small scale; now they're keen for the festival to be a catalyst for even more positive engagement in their community.
