Geothermal walk - Our experience was great, our tour guide with the really long name had a lot of knowledge to share with a bubbly attitude. 100% recommend :)

Where the Earth breads - Not only have we seen the geothermal experience through the walk, but the weather showed us (almost) four seasons in a day. The reserve is well maintained and staff very kindly.

Amazing spot made better by our fabulous guide - An amazing place to visit. We chose the guided walk and so glad we did. Our guide Ngati (his full name was so much longer) was an absolute gem. His passion for his culture and heritage was so wonderful to see. His stories were so interesting and gave us a great insight into Māori culture. The walk was well paced and the views awesome. I would highly recommend a visit to Hell’s Gate if you are in Rotorua or even make a special trip it’s well worth it but do the guided tour it’s amazing.

The free tour is unmissable. - There is a free 90-minute tour each morning and afternoon by a Māori guide. We attended, it was fantastic and brought the place to life. Highly recommended.

A Thermal Valley and Cultural Experience Not to be Missed - We went with a group of approximately 20 led by the proud Maori Ngativoirangi who did a wonderful job of explaining the meaning of the thermal valley, but also provided so many details of the history of the Maoris and the meanings of their customs and traditions. It was a cultural eye-opening experience and his sense of humor, knowledge of the natural wonders about us and enthusiasm transformed a 90-minute walkabout into a totally entertaining and informative experience. Most highly recommended!!

We had a great day! - We went yesterday and followed the guided free tour. The guide "with a very long name" was very nice, friendly and so funny! We all enjoyed his company. He was very knowledgeable but never boring. He mentioned many times his grandfather, and it would have been an honour to meet him. We thank a lot the guide "with a very long name" and his grandfather and wish them all the best!

Large Geothermal Landscape - We did the geothermal walk only, but as such thought this was good value for a 2km+ walk. We had been to other spots as well, but Hell's Gate offers a large area of continuous interlinked geothermal landscape at the top end of the walk which made for a slightly different perspective & great photos.

Worth to give a try - Great experience, I’m also very impress with the guide tour guy, he is very energetic and welcoming. The smell from sulfur could be a bit uncomfortable but it’s not really a big deal.

Wast of money, really overpriced - What a waste of money, half of the walk way is closed and the likes of Wai-O-Tapu are so much better to see at least they are colourful and over a bigger area
