World record holder The Big Wedgie is bringing its unique style of family-friendly fun to council’s Sunshine Coast Stadium for the first time, kicking off on December 8.

The Big Wedgie currently holds the world record for the tallest free-standing inflatable waterslide, standing at a whopping 18.2m tall and 82m long which treats thrillseekers to an extreme 55 degree drop.

Those who fancy something a little less extreme can take on The Just Right Wedgie, and young ones can have some splashing good fun on The Little Wedgie.

Owner and creator of The Big Wedgie, Peter Rimington, said the Sunshine Coast felt like a natural next step for the mammoth waterslide attraction, which originated in Adelaide in 2015.

“We are excited to make our move into the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Rimington said.

“And the timing is perfect. We’re confident that our introduction to the Sunshine Coast will make for the perfect family fun day out.”

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said The Big Wedgie would be a phenomenal addition to the Sunshine Coast’s summer attractions.

“We love hosting events of this type on the Sunshine Coast. They’re perfect for our relaxed lifestyle and our idyllic climate,” Cr O’Pray said.

“I’m sure The Big Wedgie will be a very popular addition to the summer holiday fun that we have available for locals and visitors throughout December and January.

“I can’t wait to head down to Sunshine Coast Stadium with my family to try out this whopping slide which I’m told is not for the faint hearted.

“It’s also good to hear those who are not quite up for the challenge of the Big Wedgie will also be catered for with the Just Right Wedgie, the Little Wedgie and the Big Chucka ensuring there is something for everyone.

“Getting people active at events like this are in line with council’s commitment to be Australia’s most sustainable region - healthy, smart, creative.”
