This tabletop television was manufactured by underdog inventor Philo Farnsworth. Its model name--the Modern--refers to its simplistic, boxy cabinetry, as well as its compactness. Despite pierced speaker grills that resonate with radio design, it is distinctly single-function. It resists the tendency of combining household technologies into concealed cabinets. The Modern stands alone, plainly-stated and defiantly free of decoration.
