Artificial intelligence (AI) has given us a glimpse of what the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain might look like today at 57.

Cobain, who tragically died at just 27 on April 8, 1994, was the lead singer of one of the world's biggest bands and his death left millions heartbroken. Now, thanks to technology, we can imagine what Cobain might look like if he were celebrating his 57th birthday on February 20. The AI image shows him still sporting his iconic blonde hair.

The AI has also added his signature stubble and placed him in a grungy photoshoot reminiscent of his prime. Cobain is considered one of the most influential figures in alternative music, and with Nirvana, he helped create the Grunge phenomenon.

Nirvana, heavily influenced by The Beatles, shot to international fame with their second album, Nevermind. Its lead single, Smells Like Teen Spirit, became an anthem for Generation X and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Nirvana's total record sales throughout their career reached an impressive 75 million.

Kurt struggled with depression and heroin addiction in his later years. Despite finding joy with fellow musician Courtney Love and their beloved daughter Frances Bean, Cobain tragically chose to end his life on April 5, 1994. His body was discovered three days later by an electrician installing a security system at his home.

Thousands of fans gathered for a public vigil in Seattle two days after his body was found. His grieving widow, Courtney Love, read parts of his suicide note to the crowd. Dave Grohl, Nirvana's drummer who later formed the Foo Fighters, said Cobain's death was "probably the worst thing that has happened to me in my life". He added: "I remember the day after that I woke up and I was heartbroken that he was gone. I just felt like, 'Okay, so I get to wake up today and have another day and he doesn't'."

Grohl has since confessed that he always suspected Cobain would die young, saying: "Sometimes you just can't save someone from themselves and in some ways, you kind of prepare yourself emotionally for that to be a reality." Dave Reed, who briefly served as Cobain's foster father, said: "He had the desperation, not the courage, to be himself."

"Once you do that, you can't go wrong, because you can't make any mistakes when people love you for being yourself. But for Kurt, it didn't matter that other people loved him; he simply didn't love himself enough."
