The '60s were a magical decade, especially for Willie Nelson! This is around the time when the American singer began his rise to stardom, showing the world what "outlaw country" was all about. Fast forward to the present-day, and Willie has seen massive success, earning all types of awards and accolades in his lengthy, seemingly never-ending career. We're talking about a journey that consists of hundreds of records, over $60 million in album sales, and numerous amounts of wins at the CMAs, AMAs, and of course, Grammys. (He's even had a stint in plenty of movies, including a few with his friend Dolly Parton.)
Willie has proven that he'll never stop doing what he loves the most. He released yet another album in 2023, titled Bluegrass. Funny enough, but also to be expected, this project is nominated for Best Bluegrass Album at the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024. This marks Willie's 57th nomination at the prestigious music ceremony!
Given his jam-packed legacy, some may begin to wonder about his age. Well, believe it or not, Willie Nelson is 90 years old as of today. That's right, Willie Hugh Nelson was born on April 29, 1933. In true Willie-fashion, the star celebrated his 90th birthday with an extravagant event filled with music and the world's biggest stars (which aired on CBS for everyone to see on December 17, 2023).
The official title of the event was "Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday Celebration." As you could imagine, it was completely mesmerizing! There were so many notable names in attendance, some of them being Chris Stapleton, Jennifer Garner, and Sheryl Crow (though, that's not including all of the other icons there). Everyone who shared the stage with Willie or had the chance to speak could be seen gleaming with joy, professing their admiration for what he's done for the music industry.
On top of his new album, Bluegrass (which consists of 12 songs), Willie has also released a live-album of all 53 songs performed during his birthday celebration, titled Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90.
