Corokia buddleioides, commonly known as Korokio, is a fast growing, NZ native shrub that features long and slender leaves that are light green on the upside and silver-grey beneath. Small, bright yellow flowers in spring result in black berries which are great for attracting birds. This handsome shrub typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate shade, moderate frost, coastal conditions, and dry periods. Corokia buddleioides is often trimmed into a hedge, included in mixed plantings, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
