Aberdeen offer to host Scottish Cup Final at Pittodrie in bid to let fans in for showpiece
ABERDEEN have offered to host this month’s Scottish Cup Final at Pittodrie in a bid to let fans in.
Dons chairman Dave Cormack is willing to turn his stadium over to the SFA for the May 22 clash between St Johnstone and Hibs.
Partial crowds will be allowed back in to sporting arenas by that stage but with Hampden being used for the Euros it’s taking place behind closed doors.
The SFA sounded out Celtic, Rangers and the SRU about using their stadia instead but none of them were available.
Now Cormack has told the authorities and the clubs involved they can host the season showpiece in the north east.
He said: "Aberdeen FC would be happy to consider Pittodrie being the Scottish Cup Final venue if it helped fans get into the stadium and it was something that both teams and the Scottish FA wanted us to do.”
Meanwhile, Paul Hanlon reckons Hibs are on course for their best-ever season as they eye a third-place finish in the league and Scottish Cup glory.
Jack Ross' men moved one step closer to securing the latter with a convincing 2-0 semi-final victory over Dundee United on Saturday.
A NEW DON How Aberdeen could line up next season with Brown, Griffiths, Gallagher and more
A win against Aberdeen on Wednesday will ensure they finish best of the rest in the Premiership, with Hanlon adamant that would eclipse the Hampden heroics of 2016.
He said: "If we were to do both this year, finishing third and winning the Cup, that would be my best season. No doubt about that.
"Obviously it's been difficult with Covid restrictions, a tough season for everyone involved in football and a lot of uncertainty.

"But if we could finish off the season that way it would definitely be my best achievement as a Hibs player and maybe our best-ever season.
"It was obviously an amazing feeling at full-time and the changing room was absolutely bouncing for a wile after.
"Everyone has worked so hard to get to this stage and we're now one step closer to lifting the trophy.
"Everyone was on a massive high, but we knew we had to come down to earth quickly, with a massive game on Wednesday to come."
