Lightning Strikes Auckland's Sky Tower

Lighting struck the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand, on Wednesday, May 10, as more than 12,000 strikes were reported by the Met Service in the space of 24 hours.

According to the Met Service, thunderstorms across central and north New Zealand caused 12,548 lightning strikes in the 24 hours leading up to 8 am on May 11.
