Ahh, the charming Konata from the series Lucky Star. If you don’t know Lucky Star, it’s a gag manga series made into an anime. It follows a story of 4 Japanese high school girls and their daily lives and hobbies. If you’d like to know more, check Lucky Star wiki.
Lucky Star is one of my favorite funny or gag manga/anime (IMHO the anime >>> the manga). It gives you the heartwarming feeling of simple daily things that can be quite funny from a third person perspective. Today, we’re here to talk about Konata, Lucky Star’s main protagonist, who’s also one of my favorite characters.
Being the shortest out of the group, Konata finds manga, anime, and games as the best things to spend her time on. yes, in short, she’s a total otaku, and an amazing one indeed (she’s known as the Legendary Girl-A in the otaku circle). She will stay up late to play online games with her friends, and will skip homework when she can by copying her friend’s the next day @ school (reminds me of my high school time :P). Despite that, she’s a genius in cramming all test subjects and pulling a one-night stand to score high in exams (well, not too high, just enough to get 86/100 or so).
Being playful and sarcastic in every moment is one of her best characteristics (did I say best? Absolutely, sarcasm is always fun, right?). The trick is she makes fun of others by comparing them to the specific characteristics in the anime world. For example, she always sees Miyuki to be the smart and clumsy type in the group, which is generalized with a high turn-on factors for male audience, and she thinks Tsukasa is an airhead-type of character that becomes the amusement of the group.
I don’t believe there’s a bigger girl-otaku than she is (I might be wrong), but seriously, she will stay up late every night to play MMORPG with her virtual friends, she’ll stop doing homework all together to watch animes and play games, and she’ll work to buy and collect manga, anime, figurines, and games. Ironically, her teacher also plays the same game that she does, and every time she’s online Konata will be told to do her homework and not to play too much.
Being that famous, no wonder you can actually see her anywhere nowadays, here are some Konata figures available out there:
And even in the cosplay industry:
Well, enough about that, enjoy some of the scenes from Lucky Star OVA (Original Video Animation)!!! Go Konata!!!
Lovely! Here are some more!!!
Playing MMO in an anime, very neat 😉
Remember kids, MMO, destroyer of lives since 1994~!

Sorry-I couldn’t vote because I didn’t share any of the 3 opinions listed. I do love Manga though but prefer the more ‘serious’ stuff like Fist of the NorthStar or Howl’s Moving Castle for example. They’re so creative.
