Is Skyline Queenstown Worth it?

Queenstown Skyline

One of the most popular attractions in the adventure capital of New Zealand is Skyline Queenstown.

With tickets starting at $46 NZD, you may be wondering if the experience is worth it. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to experience the Skyline, and I am breaking down what to expect (and if it's worth the ticket price!).

While admission to the Skyline Queenstown was provided to me by the company, as always, all opinions remain my own.

What to Expect at Skyline Queenstown

First and foremost: get there early. There's a reason this attraction is so popular, and the line snakes around outside very quickly. I arrived a half hour after opening and had a bit of a wait. That being said, their staff does a great job of keeping things moving.

After grabbing your ticket at the front desk, you'll be ushered to the gondolas. I found the gondola cars particularly interesting as they were made in Austria and designed after the famous ski gondolas they used out there.

Once you hop on, you'll begin a 450-meter climb to Bob's Peak. The whole ride up, I was embracing my inner Owen Wilson going "wow" alone to myself in the carriage.

What Can You Do at the Top of Skyline Queenstown?

Once you reach the summit, you can choose from a few recreational options. There is, of course, both a small cafe and a gift shop for everyone to enjoy.

The Sky Deck

The whole point of your journey up is to soak in the epic views. The first item on your itinerary should be waddling off the gondola and making your way to the sky deck. Here you will have your "oooo" and "ahhhh" moments contemplating your existence while you look out across at The Remarkables mountain range.

Queenstown Luge

If you're feeling up for a bit of an adrenaline rush, you can purchase tickets for the luge. It is better to buy the tickets at the bottom ticket office, but you can still purchase them at the summit.

The luge experience is 1,600 meters of a speedy playground. I saw kids and adults alike with huge smiles on their faces as they raced down the course. I didn't get a chance to try it out myself, but it truly looked like a top-notch experience.

Paragliding

If a cruise on the luge doesn't quite do it for you, you book a paragliding experience down the mountain. Honestly, it looked super cool. I believe it ran for a couple of hundred New Zealand dollars and could be booked at the summit.

Stratosfare Restaurant & Bar

While there is a takeway cafe on site, the real dining experience is Stratosfare Restaurant & Bar. Although the food was a bit pricey, it might be worth the experience for you to sit down and enjoy the mountain views while you eat.

So, Is the Queenstown Skyline Worth It?

I'd say 100% yes. Even if you're just riding up for the views, it's well worth the price of admission. The adventure doesn't stop there either–from luge races to paragliding, this great attraction provides a huge variety of activities for those willing to take on some extra adrenaline. Plus, with a delicious restaurant at the top, you can enjoy the views in style!
