Oribi

The Oribi is a small antelope, often mistaken for a Steenbok. It has a rusty -brown hue with a white neck and chest.

Only the males carry horns, which are straight, but tend to bend forward slightly at the tips. Normally it lives alone, but sometimes flocks of up to 12 animals are seen. Oribi prefer to graze when it is cool; hence the hunt for Oribi is best in the early morning and late evening hours. Oribi can achieve a running speed of 40-50 km/h- The average life expectancy is about 14 years.

The Oribi Antelope can be incredibly curious, even when it detects the hunter. It frequently stops after a suitable distance and turns to look back at, or even go back to the hunter. This often results in good shooting-chances.

A good calibre for this antelope will be a .270 or 7mm. You can risk a very long shot, as it primarily lives in open ground without much coverage.

Side By Side Safaris has a large nearby hunting concession where there is a good population of Oribi, with a trophy quality of the highest possible standard.
