Draining a lake to uncover world famous terraces . It is believed that the famous pink and white terraces of Rotorua , formerly one of the most beautiful scenic features of New Zealand were not destroyed by the Mount Tarawera eruption in 1886 , but that they were only submerged by Lake Toromahana , It is therefore proposed to drain the lake .
